The role of motivation in the relationship between perfectionism and critical thinking in Sabzevar Azad University students.

Abstract: The present study examines the role of motivation in the relationship between perfectionism and critical thinking in students of Azad University, Sabzevar. The hypotheses addressed in this research are as follows:1. Motivation has a significant relationship with perfectionism in students of Azad University, Sabzevar.2. Motivation has a significant relationship with critical thinking in students of Azad University, Sabzevar.This research utilized a statistical population comprising all undergraduate students in the fields of humanities at Azad University, Sabzevar, and collected data from a sample of 291 of these students. Research instruments, including Tyron and colleagues' (1999) Intrinsic Motivation Questionnaire, Hill and colleagues' (2004) Perfectionism Questionnaire, and California Fashion and Fashion's (1993) Critical Thinking Inventory, were employed for data collection. The results of this research demonstrate that motivation has a meaningful relationship with perfectionism in students of Azad University, Sabzevar. Furthermore, the results indicate that motivation also has a significant relationship with critical thinking in these students. These findings emphasize the fundamental role of motivation in determining the levels of perfectionism and critical thinking in students and underscore the importance of awareness regarding factors influencing motivation in the university environment. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that educational programs and strategies place special emphasis on enhancing student motivation. Additionally, considering the dimensions of perfectionism and critical thinking in the educational process is essential to enable students to expect the best performance from themselves and improve their critical thinking abilities in solving various problems. The results of this research can contribute to enhancing the quality of education and learning at Azad University, Sabzevar, and similar educational institutions.
