Title : The effect of financial intelligence on personal financial management with the mediating role of financial self-control.
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of financial intelligence on personal financial
management with the mediating role of financial self-control among junior high school teachers in
Sabzevar. The study was applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlational in terms of research
method, and structural equation modeling was employed to examine the proposed relationships. The
statistical population consisted of all junior high school teachers in Sabzevar during the 2025–2026
academic year, from whom 200 teachers were selected using convenience sampling. Data were
collected using a financial intelligence questionnaire, a researcher-developed financial self-control
questionnaire, and a personal financial management questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed
using SPSS and AMOS through descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and structural
equation modeling. The mediating effect of financial self-control was examined using the bootstrap
method. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between financial intelligence and
financial self-control (r=0.428, p<0.01), and financial intelligence had a positive and significant direct
effect on financial self-control (?=0.428, p<0.001). A positive and significant relationship was also
found between financial intelligence and personal financial management (r=0.472, p<0.01), while the
direct effect of financial intelligence on personal financial management was positive and significant
(?=0.297, p<0.001). Furthermore, financial self-control was positively and significantly related to
personal financial management (r=0.535, p<0.01), and its direct effect on personal financial
management was also positive and significant (?=0.407, p<0.001). The standardized indirect effect of
financial intelligence on personal financial management through financial self-control was 0.179, with
a bootstrap confidence interval ranging from 0.115 to 0.248, indicating a significant mediating effect.
Since the direct effect of financial intelligence on personal financial management remained significant
after including the mediator, the mediating role of financial self-control was identified as partial.
Overall, the findings indicated that financial intelligence and financial self-control were important
factors associated with personal financial management, and part of the effect of financial intelligence
on personal financial management was transmitted through increased financial self-control.
Accordingly, strengthening both financial capabilities and self-control skills may contribute to
improving personal financial management among junior high school teachers
