Transitional Challenges from High School to University in Vocabulary Learning Strategies and Vocabulary Size: A Case of EFL Learners in Public and Non-profit High Schools in Iran

Abstract The purposes of this study is to examine the challenges of language learners in public and non-profit high schools, gender was also taken into consideration, but it did not have a great impact on the challenges of the students. In total, 50 students of Azad Sabzevar University participated in the fields of social sciences and humanities, 30 of them were women and 20 were men. The main measuring tools of this research were questionnaires and vocabulary level test. To answer the first and second questions of the research, the mean, standard deviation, and percentage statistical methods were used, and the fourth and fifth questions were using the Spearman statistical method. The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the scores of the vocabulary level test and the questionnaire of scores (p<0/05, r=0.036) (p<0/05, r=0.044) and in this study, interviews were also used, and 10 students were selected, 5 were women and 5 were men, and in about 20 to 25 minutes each person was asked questions about the vocabulary level test, and their scores were measured as the TOEFL test scores.
