Hye epoxy resin nanocomposites using magnetic nanoparticles coated with silica gel NiFe2O4 and amine groups and curing kinetics of physical and chemical properties of
Epoxy resin as a polymer chain containing more than one epoxy group, is able to become thermostable. That's why Epoxy resins are an important class of thermosetting polymers which often have excellent mechanical and chemical properties, corrosion resistance, good dimensional stability and high tensile strength, which makes them suitable for use in various applications, including as a matrix for reinforced composite fiber. Oxirane group is highly reactive in epoxy resin and reacts with curing agents to obtain high performance thermoset resins. For curing of epoxy resins, compounds with active hydrogen atoms are used. Amines, phenols, alcohols, carboxylic acids and anhydrides are an example of curing agents. Curing is an exothermic and irreversible reaction that it can be slowly, quickly and stopped but can not be reversed. The curing reaction is simply done by mixing the resin and the curing agent. Some curing agents react with the resin at room temperature, while others require heat. Epoxy resins are usually fragil at room temperature and one of the most efficient and important ways to improve of their resistance without significantly reducing of their inherent properties is modifying epoxy resins, so add the second phase to the matrix of epoxy resin through a physical or chemical reaction. Nanoparticles are one of the most effective additives to improve the properties of epoxy resin.
In this study, composites based on different amounts of NiFe2O4 nanoparticles modified by amine groups and silica gel coating were prepared and some of their properties, such as thermal and mechanical properties, were examined and compared with pure epoxy resin. FT-IR spectroscopy was used to identify modified nanoparticles. The surface morphology and the distribution of nanoparticles in the polymer matrix were also investigated using electron microscopy
