The effect of parenting styles on sport perfectionism and self-regulation in athlete students
Desirable performance in sport is a combination of technical, tactical, physical and psychological abilities. The lack of any of these abilities will prevent the athlete's progress. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of parenting styles (authority style, dictatorship and inefficiency) on perfectionism and self-regulation of athletic students.
This research was applied and based on the nature and method, the main method of research was descriptive - survey. The statistical population consisted of 300 female high school female athletes in 1396, using random sampling, 200 subjects were selected as sample. The data gathering tool was a questionnaire of Bamerind's child-rearing practices, Hill's perfectionism inventory, Ryan and Conel's self-regulation questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 22. In this research, descriptive statistics (absolute frequency distribution, percentage, mean and standard deviation), and inferential statistics (Kolmogorov-Smirnov test) were used to examine the normality of collected data, one-way variance analysis and Tukey's test.
The results of the data analysis showed that the easy parenting style had the highest role in sport perfectionism among athlete female students. There was no difference between authoritarian style and authoritarianism (p> 0.05). Adolescent parenting style has the least role in sport discipline of athlete female students. There was no difference between tyranny and attitudes (p> 0.05).
Almost all previous studies that have been conducted on the variables of this research emphasize that parenting practices are among the most important factors influencing children's sense of adequacy and self-confidence. Therefore, parenting practices can be one of the factors affecting perfectionism and self-regulation processes and also affect the athletic performance. Previous research also suggests that self-regulation affects success in all matters of life.
Based on the results obtained from this study, it is desirable to inform parents and educate them about the correct child-rearing style, such as pamphlets, workshops, special sessions, etc.
