Cultural invasion Incompatible Values and Ideologies within the Imported English Materials:a Case Study of Iranian Context.

In social studies and culture, language is a means of establishing social communication; in fact, language is one of the most important needs of all human societies through which members of society can inevitably interact with one another, thereby eliminating the needs of each other. Learning English has always been considered as an effective tool for international communication. Due to the increasing of communication between different cultures and languages, and the important role of the communicative media in today's world, understanding the culture of other countries is indispensable. In the past few decades, due to the expansion of the demand for English education in developed and underdeveloped countries, the West has sought to use the English language teaching books that almost exclusively produce and distribute them as a tool for serving the purposes of their cultural invasion. In this thesis, the writer is going to show the importance of English as an international language and then present the challenges of teaching English in Iranian context. The main focus of this thesis will be on the prevailing English course books and the ones currently spoken on in Iran. The writer is going to show the examples of cultural invasion and incompatible values and ideologies in the ELT textbook from Pearson Longman Publishing Center titled "Impact Series" and "Four Corners" published by Cambridge University Press. So, these books are going to be considered in terms of content and hidden cultural values. Also, some positive and compatible issues within this textbook are going to reveal and present for all student.
